Sugarbelly

The topic on everyone’s lips at the moment and across all social media platforms in Nigeria is none other than the Rape scandal that hovers over the head of the family of Late Prince Audu Abubakar and a young woman named Sugabelly.

In an earlier post this morning, we detailed how Sugabelly publicly opened a can of worms in the run-in to the forthcoming Kogi state supplementary elections.

According to the young woman who has now become a viral twitter sensation, Mustapha Audu (The first son of Prince Audu) together with some of his brothers and friends had repeatedly gang raped her when she was just a teenager. She was also the subject of an alleged blackmail; as she was threatened with force and more if she ever opened up to anyone about the ongoing harrasment.

Her story has gotten a lot of sympathy today and many have rallied around in support of her imminent legal fight against the culprit with the #IStandWithSugabelly hashtag.

Top among her supporters is former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili. she also drew the sympathy of  former member of the Nigeria Federal House of Representatives, Abike Dabiri and award winning journalist, Funmi Iyanda.

WE shall STAND WITH @sugabelly & ensure that all the FACTS are fully established. We owe her& all victims who speak up the little WE CAN DO.

I don't know what to say @sugabelly. I feel deep anger and sadness. I can offer you a tight hug now whilst l process https://twitter.com/sugabelly/status/670144472118882304

  3. Her story is a big lie, can't you people read her mails and see her begging a man to love her. And the guy refused then 8 years later she remembers that while she was busy begging to be loved and made love to that the same guy was "raping her". This is who my late mother will call Onye Ara meaning mad woman
